When the water pump starts, water pressure acts on the lower part of the main valve disc and the lower cavity of the control chamber. This pressure causes the main valve to open, and the water in the upper cavity of the control chamber is slowly discharged to the outlet end through regulating valve B, allowing the main valve to open gradually. Setting the opening degree of the regulating valve can achieve an appropriate opening speed of the main valve.

After the water pump stops working, the water pressure at the inlet end drops rapidly. Under the action of its own weight and spring pressure, the valve quickly closes most of its opening. The remaining opening is slowly closed by the combined action of the water pressure in the upper cavity and lower cavity of the control chamber. The slowed closing speed forms a buffer to prevent a sharp increase in pressure, thus avoiding water hammer and water hammering phenomena.
